Each week, when we bring our gifts of bread, wine and money, we pray a prayer of thanksgiving, which highlights the generosity of God, captured by these words: ‘Yours, Lord, is the power, the splendour and the majesty. All things come from you and of your own do we give you.'

Frequently Asked Questions

What is giving?

Traditionally, giving is known as ‘tithing’. Tithing was when the people of Israel would give 10 per cent of their grain and livestock as a way of recognising God’s sovereignty and provision. Tithing 10 per cent would be symbolic of dedicating the entirety to God, giving Him the firstfruits of labours.

For churches today, tithing (or giving or offering) is considered an act of worship in response to the goodness of God. It is an important aspect of spiritual discipline and Christian discipleship.

Why should I give to St Peter's?

As your local church we rely on donations in order to keep our doors open and to continue to serve our community. We do not receive central funding from the Government or other agencies. Everything we receive covers our outgoings such as: repairs, maintenance, energy bills, our parish share to the Diocese, and staffing, etc. We do not exist for profit, so anything we receive beyond our overheads is reinvested back into our church community.

We are so much more than building or a hub for activity. The Church is the Body of Christ, where each member is valued and precious to God. We want more and more people to know that they are loved by God. By giving, you are investing in the Church of today, not just tomorrow. Current and future generations will be impacted by your gift as we continue to sow and grow God’s Kingdom in Hale.

How much should I give?

Although tithing is no longer necessarily 10 per cent, we encourage you to prayerfully consider how much you can regularly give or afford. Sometimes this might be more or less than 10 per cent. However big or small the gift, the most important thing is the heart behind it. With so many demands on our finances and the cost of living, we understand that giving is a sacrifice, and for that we are so grateful for anything you can give.

How can I give?

You can give in any of the ways mentioned above. Giving regularly by Standing Order and adding Gift Aid to your donations is ideal, as this helps us to plan for the future. Please see our Giving Form below for more details.

What if I like to give during the service in Church?

Some choose to set up a Standing Order for most of their monthly giving, but give a small amount in the collection so they can give as part of their Sunday worship.

How do I setup a Standing Order?

Very simple! You can either complete the Standing Order Mandate below and send to your local branch, or set it up with your bank online or by telephone banking using the following Bank Details:

PCC St Peters CSV

There may also be an option to do this via your banking app if you have one.

In all cases, please return the left half of the Giving Form to the Church Office so that we can know to expect your gift, and also if we can claim Gift Aid on your donations.

What about Gift Aid?

If you are a UK tax payer and give via Standing Order or other means, please make sure you fill in a Gift Aid declaration form. By adding Gift Aid to your donation we can claim the basic rate of tax back from the Government, which increases your gift by 25 per cent, at no extra cost to you.

We need your permission to do this, so please do complete the Giving Form (which has a Gift Aid Declaration section) below and return it to the attention of our Financial Officer, Andrew Entwisle, to St Peter’s House, 233 Ashley Road, Hale, Altrincham WA15 9SS.

Giving Forms are also available at the back of church.
