Guild of Servers

We are a voluntary group of Confirmed people with ages ranging from early teens to 60+ who assist both behind the scenes preparing ‘equipment’ and also assisting during Services on a rota basis.
Our main duties at Holy Communion include preparation of the elements (wine and bread wafers) and their vessels. Setting up the altar for the service and assisting during the Service by taking vessels to and from the priest as required.
At other Services we carry the Processional Cross to lead the choir and clergy into and out of Church and at Family Services also carry the different Church groups’ banners in procession.

Becoming a Server
Age is not important, but it is preferred if the Server is a full member of the Church having been confirmed by the Bishop and able to take Holy Communion.
If you feel you would like to find out more about opportunities for Serving please ask the Vicar or contact Richard Ernill. Don’t worry as plenty of training will be given!

Growing Together: Servers
Serving gives an opportunity to become more involved in the Services from a ‘hands on’ point of view in assisting the clergy. Sometimes Servers may wish to further their involvement by becoming Lay Readers or distributing the wine at Communion services, after obtaining the necessary wine licence.
