January and February at St Peters

At 10am on the Sunday nearest 2nd February each year there will be a Special Service of Holy Communion for all ages to celebrate Candlemas

The Feast of Candlemas commemorates the presentation of Christ in the temple, 40 days after his birth as Jewish law required. Luke tells us that Mary and Joseph took Jesus to Jerusalem because every firstborn child was to be dedicated to the Lord. They also went to sacrifice a pair of doves or two young pigeons, showing that Mary and Joseph were poor. Once in the temple, Simeon, in the presence of Anna the prophetess, gave thanks to the Lord, singing a hymn now called the Nunc Dimittis:

Lord, now you let your servant go in peace, your word has been fulfilled:
My own eyes have seen the salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of every people:
a light to reveal you to the nations and the glory of your people Israel.

We have relaunched our Sunday School with a new and exciting programme. Sunday School meets on the second, fourth and fifth Sundays of the month. On the first Sunday of the month, there is a service of Holy Communion for all ages together at 10am and on the third Sunday, a shorter and simpler service for all ages together.

Bright Sparks - A programme specially planned for older primary school children

For children between 8 and 11 (Key stage 2: years 3 - 7)

The older group will be following a course all about Holy Communion - and those who want to receive communion will be admitted at a special service in July.  During the service those who are preparing to receive Holy Communion for the first time will play a special part in the worship, recalling their baptism and relight their baptismal candles.

Sparklers - A group specially planned for younger children.

For children between 4 and 7 (Foundation and Key Stage 1: Reception - year 2)

Sprinkles - A group specially planned for pre-school children and their carers.

For children between 1 and 3 (pre-school)

St Peter's Creche - For parents, grandparents and carers with infants from birth to pre-schoolers.  You are welcome to visit the Creche and return to the church service anytime.

Full baby changing facilities and kitchen are available in St Peter's House.

A dedicated area in the church is available for children and their carers, with games and resources to help them to engage with worship and Bible stories. There are also creche facilities in St Peter’s House during every 10am Sunday morning service where you can visit and return to the church service anytime.
